July 30th, 2008 - Metal Production
The realm of metal fabrication includes a wide variety of methods: shops use high-powered presses to condense material, forming tools to cut metal parts, and other tools to buff them for consistent surfaces.
Within the gamut of techniques used daily in metalworking shops, there’s also a number of uses for methods that rely on circular motion to work metal parts. These are continually being developed as alternative choices or “fixes” for metal pieces that have not been sufficiently formed by other means.
Metal Spinning
For some metalworking processes, metal parts benefit from being spun on lathe tools or other machines, either to assist with finishing or with structural formation. Spinning metal can help maintain the integrity of parts or strengthen their internal structures. Metal spinning can also be a cost-effective way to machine parts with the simplicity of motion required to do this kind of metalworking with metal spinners.
Hydro-forming
For other projects where spinning may not be the best solution, there’s hydro-forming: this process applies hydraulic pressure to non-spinning metal in ways that don’t affect the consistency of the metal parts.
An advantage of hydro-forming is that it creates seamless parts through the pressure it puts on metal pieces. Hydro-forming is popular in making a range of products like restaurant equipment.
Metal Spinning and Hydro-forming Methods
Leaders in supplying well-engineered metal pieces for industrial use specialize in methods like metal spinning and hydro-forming, using state of the art technology and tested techniques to get quality, consistency and durability in finished products.
Spinning Lathes and other technology provide cutting edge metal spinning solutions in shops specifically outfitted for creating smooth, sturdy circular parts, from small rods to bulky cylinders, free of defects and reliable enough for use in end products.
Other Services
Spinning and hydro-forming are front and center in the array of services third party metalworking shops can provide to get metal pieces rollout-ready and into clients’ shelves, but business clients often need support for a range of pieces to assemble their creations. Diversified metalworking shops use hydraulic high-pressure presses and stamping techniques as well as shearing and shaping to manufacture metal pieces both large and small, delivering plates, pins, rings, or a variety of customized pieces for the specific use a client has engineered into their product line.
Choosing a Third Party Metalworking Shop
What do business managers look for in a parts provider?
Besides checking out the wealth of tools and technology on a shop floor, a client wants to know that the parts they order will be not only finished to perfection, but machined to the specific sizes and shapes they need.
Communication is critical: with the best third party metalworking shops showcasing their best practices and services online and providing 24-hour phone support, it’s become a question of who can deliver quality while listening to client preferences and reading incoming templates or specs, so that no one will be surprised when the parts arrive on a client floor for assembly.
Time is also of the essence: shops who can provide cost estimates and calculate how quickly their contributions will flow into shipping will be the most reliable partners for implementing new growth or product roll-outs.
So when looking for a metal parts provider, test out the communications department, offering design points and doing a little QA on whether the staff on the ground have your specifications in hand at the beginning, middle and end of the process.
July 29th, 2008 - Heavy Equipment Costs
With the steady increase in construction projects nationwide year after year, it’s no wonder the average price of the typical piece of heavy equipment is over $135,000. Let’s face it; we wouldn’t be able to get our jobs done if we didn’t have these behemoths available. But there are some hidden costs within their benefits.
The technology used in heavy equipment is far beyond anything we have seen in the past and the costs to hire someone to operate a particular piece of equipment is skyrocketing. The national average for a heavy equipment operator is in the $60,000 range.
Powerful heavy equipment is useless if there is no around to fix it. Working with heavy equipment is no easy task. If your company has purchased some type of machinery that has no maintenance agreement included, one major repair jobsite can wipe out the profit you had built into the project.
Every year, millions of dollars worth of heavy equipment is stolen from the job site. Heavy equipment is tempting for thieves. The stolen heavy equipment is either parted out or taken to another area where it is sold or used by another business.
When heavy equipment is underutilized your costs of acquisition skyrocket and your loss in value is occurring unnecessarily. Heavy equipment is not a cheap undertaking and you should find ways to maximize the value of your machinery. One thing to consider is renting or leasing your equipment when it is idle.
Construction equipment is inherently dangerous to work around, especially for employees on foot. While heavy equipment is being operated, potentially dangerous materials may be present, electric circuits may be live, flammable or noxious liquids or gases and other potential dangers will exist. How are you prepared for these events should one occur? Remember: The best policy around heavy equipment is to take no chances.
As you see there are other things you need to consider as your fleet of heavy construction equipment grows and there are no easy answers. Talk to others in your area about how they manage their inventory and how they maintain, operate, move, and utilize their equipment.
July 29th, 2008 - Advancements in Heavy Equipment
Among the heavy equipment, backhoe-loaders are used in small demolitions, breaking asphalt, construction, digging holes/excavating, light transportation of building materials, powering building equipment, and paving roads. To smash concrete and rock, tools such as breakers can be used instead of the backhoe bucket. To empty its load more quickly and efficiently, some loader buckets have a retractable bottom. Grading and scratching off sand is executed with retractable-bottom loader buckets. The front assembly may be permanently mounted or have a removable attachment. Often other devices and tools replace the bucket. In order to mount different attachments to the loader, the backhoe loader must be equipped with a tool coupler. Bulldozers are heavy equipment but they are also large and tracked engineering vehicles. With the mobility and ground hold given by the tracks they can move through very rough terrain. Swamp tracks in bulldozers are merely extra wide tracks.
The three distinct assemblies of compact hydraulic excavators are workgroup, undercarriage and house. The boom, arm or dipper and attachments such as bucket and breaker are parts of the workgroup of a compact hydraulic excavator. They are connected to the front of the house structure of the excavator via a swing frame that allows the workgroup to be hydraulically pivoted right or left to achieve offset digging for trenching.
Harvesters today do practically all of the commercial felling in Sweden and Finland and they were developed in these countries. Harvesters work best in less difficult terrain while clear cutting areas of forest. Small and very agile harvesters are used in the Nordic countries for thinning operations.
An iron or a cylinder placed between two metal rods so that it is able to freely slide down and up are included in the pile drivers. A pulley system is used to raise the cylinder which may involve the use of manual labor, steam or hydraulics. Small explosions in the chamber are used in modern pile drivers to raise the cylinder.
A piece of heavy equipment used for earthmoving in civil engineering, is a wheel tractor-scraper. A vertically moveable hopper in the rear part with a sharp horizontal front edge does the scraping. Raising and lowering of the hopper is done hydraulically. The front edge cuts into the soil like a cheese-cutter when the hopper is lowered.
July 27th, 2008 - Monitored Alarm
Last night I awoke to an odd noise in my home. This is never a fun moment. You’re stirred from a peaceful sleep and darkness surrounds you. Of course your family is scattered between several different bedrooms, sleeping as well. My reaction was to slip quickly out of bed, snag my Surefire flashlight and a tactical fixed blade, and check out the home. Thankfully there was nothing amiss. It’s funny how our minds work this way. We literally adapt to “normal” noises while we sleep. A dripping faucet or our spouse using the restroom is to be expected and we can sleep through these sounds. We’re used to them. However, when an unfamiliar sound resonates, our minds jolt us out of a deep sleep. It’s an innate defense mechanism. Unfortunately it’s not 100 percent. I’ve seen some folks sleep through virtually everything. This is where a monitored alarm comes in handy. You can protect your home while you sleep with basic technology. Or should I say let someone else protect it?

July 21st, 2008 - Europe Destinations
Europe is a popular destination for those that love to travel, or for those that dream of traveling to just one special place sometime in the future. There is a lot of history in Europe, and many can trace their family tree back to some country contained therein. There are also many great historical cities and sites there that many find intriguing and hope to see before they are no longer able to get on a plane and travel. You may have already been there, and if that is the case, you may be looking for Europe destinations that you have yet to see. Don’t be afraid to go off the beaten path in that case.
Some of the best Europe destinations are ones that are not included with some of the most traditional packages you can find. Some people want to see as much of Europe as they can, and that means jumping from one country to another as quickly as they can. There is nothing wrong with that, and those are great Europe destinations for those that have never been to that part of the world. It does, however, mean that you may be missing out on some of the really great things that this continent has to offer.
If you decide that you want to see some of the destinations in Europe that are not of the regular, you may have to plan your own trip. Most that you find through websites and travel agencies are going to have some of the more common stops. You can research online to see some of the out-of-the-way places that others have chosen to explore. You can find this type of information on many of the travel forums you can find almost anywhere online. A simple search should bring these up for you.
You can also find some out-of-the-way Europe destinations by going out and finding books on travel in Europe. You can find these in your local bookstore, or you can find them online as well. You can then go through these and pick out what you want to do on your own. You can then book each part of your trip on your own through your airline of choice or your travel agent. You can also to that with online travel sites. It can be a bit complicated and time consuming, but it will be worth it when you have planned your vacation exactly the way you want it.
July 21st, 2008 - Finding Discount Wedding Dresses
Unless you have a ton of money at your disposal, you probably want to get the best deal that you can get while still getting a dream gown for your wedding. You should never give up on the style and even specific dress that you want, but you do have to think about what you can really afford. When money is tight, it is in your best interest to look for discount wedding dresses to see if there is something that you fall in love with at an amazing price.
When you know money is tight, there is one huge mistake you can make. There is an excitement like no other that comes with getting married, and that means many brides to be race out to find wedding magazines. The problem with this is that you are going to fall in love with a dress you see inside, and it can be way out of your price range. If you don’t see these first, you will have much better luck when looking at discount wedding dresses. Not knowing what exactly you want can help you fall in love with the discount versions just as easily.
What most don’t realize is that discount wedding dresses can be just as nice as the expensive ones without having to spend a fortune. Most don’t see that saving money is just as important as looking amazing, and they do not have to be exclusive of one another. The materials may not be as luxurious on discount wedding dresses, but the style and look can be just as nice. You are only going to wear it once anyway, so less impressive but still nice fabric is not really all that big of a deal if you really think about it.
Unless you have to have the most up to the minute styles, you can get your dream dress from your dream designer as discount wedding dresses. Once a dress has gone a year on the shelves without being sold, it is off a season. That can mean incredible discounts on what was an expensive dress just a year ago. I bought my wedding dress this way. It was a thousand dollars a year before, but I got it from a store selling discount wedding dresses for a little over a hundred dollars. For me, that was an amazing deal, and there is no reason why you can’t find one for yourself.
