July 27th, 2008 - Monitored Alarm
Last night I awoke to an odd noise in my home. This is never a fun moment. You’re stirred from a peaceful sleep and darkness surrounds you. Of course your family is scattered between several different bedrooms, sleeping as well. My reaction was to slip quickly out of bed, snag my Surefire flashlight and a tactical fixed blade, and check out the home. Thankfully there was nothing amiss. It’s funny how our minds work this way. We literally adapt to “normal” noises while we sleep. A dripping faucet or our spouse using the restroom is to be expected and we can sleep through these sounds. We’re used to them. However, when an unfamiliar sound resonates, our minds jolt us out of a deep sleep. It’s an innate defense mechanism. Unfortunately it’s not 100 percent. I’ve seen some folks sleep through virtually everything. This is where a monitored alarm comes in handy. You can protect your home while you sleep with basic technology. Or should I say let someone else protect it?
